I just love making star books. They are beautiful little books which open into five pointed stars you can write notes on or hang in windows. The covers of these are handmade paper, some cotton fiber, some celery and beet fiber mixed with cotton, and watercolor pencil.

- After the first few days we began to dream of garlic. At night I closed my eyes and saw the green and yellow of garlic stalks; I saw row after row of garlic. I fell asleep my hands twitching to pull the stalks and reveal dirt covered bulbs. During the day we washed the bulbs so that when we hung them to dry they were purple and white. After a week the barn was full of garlic and I could no longer smell it. In the months that followed my sense of smell returned, but the dreams of garlic harvest never left me altogether. © ALM 2008
